Weekly:  Atlantic Cape Community College, Stockton University, Rowan University

Circle K International, the largest university service leadership organization in the world, performs half a million hours of service each year. With more than 13,700 members in 19 nations, CKI is making a positive impact on the world every day. CKI clubs are organized on a university campus and sponsored by a local Kiwanis club. A self-governing organization, CKI clubs elect their own officers, conduct their own meetings and determine their own service activities. CKI blends community service and leadership training with the opportunity to meet other students. In addition to raising funds for The Eliminate Project, CKI clubs co-sponsor K-Kids and Builders Clubs.

NJ Large Scale Project - Invasive Vine Removal & Hedgerow Cleanup workday with The Nature Conservancy

Sunday, March 5, 2017: Twenty three students from ACCC, Rowan, Stockton and Rutgers provided support for the Garrett Family Preserve, part of the Nature Conservancy pulling invasive weeds to allow native plants thrive. Cape May Kiwanis sponsors the Circle K club at ACCC. The students were joined by Mickey Cohen, District Administrator and ACCC Advisor Donna McElroy. Kiwanis club members provided a warm club house and a hot meal after the cold and windy work day.

The Project: Help the Nature Conservancy restore habitat in an area previously dominated by invasive plants. The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has undertaken a large scale hedgerow restoration, removing invasive vines from the upland edge of a salt marsh. TNC has mowed a complex of invasive vines from between and around large trees and needed help doing the finish work of raking and piling the mowed material so it can be removed, and cutting vines from around the remaining trees that the mower wasn’t able to reach. This was a physically demanding day, but many hands made light the work. Thank you to everyone involved in supporting CKI as they assisted in the conservation effort. And Poncho and Dave, thank you so much for your hard work leading up to and on the day of this event.
